Our academy offers after-school enrichment classes for pre-kindergarten through high school students. In every subject we teach, we go beyond drills and memorization to build subject competency, intellectual curiosity, and the passionate pursuit of academic excellence. The cornerstone of our advanced learning system is our proprietary curriculum which

  • Promotes critical thinking
  • Reinforces essential skills, and
  • Accelerates learning

Unlike other tutoring companies, we focus on more than just numerical drills, to teach our students to understand the real world applications of the math concepts they study. Our English curriculum incorporates grammar, vocabulary, comprehension, and writing to nurture well-rounded students who acquire mastery of the English language.

About the Academy

A Grade Ahead of Hoboken opened its doors in October 2013. Over the past three years our academy has attracted a lot of local media attention and success stories, as residents are excited to have a dedicated, state of the art, professional center, with proven materials and great teachers to hone their children’s English and math skills.

They believe in the A Grade Ahead method and want to give your children the flexibility to learn and gain knowledge at their own pace, give your kids the understanding of number sense and prepare them for standardized tests and the increasingly competitive world. Learning should be fun and should be embraced rather than enforced.

Welcome to the Hoboken A Grade Ahead center, where we hope to teach your kids the joy of learning!

Spotlight on Students

Melanie is an A Grade Ahead success story—she went from struggling in math to excelling in her school assessments.

Melanie joined us in summer 2014 after completing 2nd grade, for help with Math. When she first joined, we initially paced her lesson plan to catch up on areas identified by her assessment during the summer. By the time she entered 3rd grade in the fall, she was on par with grade level. However, we noticed that on our month end review tests, she displayed some test-related anxiety. We assigned a teacher to help with some tips to strengthen memory recall of key formulae, multiplication tables, etc. This was achieved without removing her from a group setting, as she still enjoyed the small group class setting at A Grade Ahead. Eventually we received an IEP from school and worked in accordance with the IEP to tutor Melanie. A Grade Ahead's class settings, worked great. Combined with hard and intensive work on Melanie's part as well and tremendous supportive environment from her parents, we were pleased to see great results in her assessments at school. Melanie also qualified for the John Hopkins program and was recently offered admission to the Hudson School, one of the top private schools in NJ. We are very pleased with Melanie's progress and are truly happy to have helped through all her successes. As her dad Brian was kind enough to say, while sharing Melanie's Star Assessment scores, "Please share with Melanie's tutors and let them know they are making a positive difference in kids’ lives every day." For us at A Grade Ahead, her success is greater compensation than anything else we can possibly receive for our efforts. Way to go Mel!! We are very proud of you!

A Grade Ahead would like to congratulate Aava on her excellent performance on her KG admission exams! Aaava received an offer for a solitary seat for the KG program at a leading Hudson county private school, and one of 3 admission spots at another leading Hudson county private school.

Aava joined A Grade Ahead’s PK program in August 2015. When she first started, she needed to learn to write some of her letters and numbers and to accurately count beyond 20. With consistent one on one tutoring, between Aug – Dec 2015, Aava was able to do exceedingly well in the entrances to the KG programs of Stevens Co-Operative and All Saints School. With our excellent building blocks curriculum and working closely with parents, we were able to determine and strengthen Aava’s development areas (not that theere were many ☺ ). At the end of private tutoring sessions, Aava could count upto 100, add and subtract one digit numbers, read all letters, was perfect with phonics, and read small sight words, accurately. She was great at patterns and analytical exercises as well. Needless to say, she transitioned to our group classes seamlessly since January 2015. She is now studying in the KG program at A Grade Ahead about 6 months after joining us. With consistent work and increasing enthusiasm for learning, she continues to be one of a high performing student. Great job Aava!! We are very happy for your success and are pleased to have been there for you. We look forward to providing continued support for all your growing academic needs and challenges.
